Clamping a misaligned tool holder can lead to a shorter tool life for machine tools. It can result in mis-clamping and dropped tools as well as abnormal wear on the spindle taper, tool changer, CAM followers and tool holder. It is important to have correct tool alignment to ensure all the uptime for your machines as possible. When there is a misalignment between the Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) arm and either the machine tool spindle or the magazine, it can result in jamming or damage to the tool or spindle. This issue also inevitably compromises the accuracy of runout and reduces the lifespan of the tool.

Generic Concept procedure below

• Step #1 - Taper - Select retention knobs used in that machine and screw in taper
• Step #2 - Taper - Insert bolt to hold up to spindle and clamp inspindle.
• Step #3 - Insert center puck of ATC alignment tool into swing arm
• Step #4 - Find safe way to manually rotate swing arm slowly. Usually a MTB maintenance mode or manually turning ATC motor (CAUTION: Do not use MDI/MEMORY modes)
• Step #5 insert alignment pin and try to align arm rotation center and axes alignments. (Depends on type of machine design)
