What is a Waycover?


Q: What is a Way Cover?
•   A: Waycovers are used to protect machinery and surroundings from the byproducts of the manufacturing process.  They help prevent chips, fluids, and materials from exiting the work area: (expand)

Starting the Process  "What do I need to do to get started?"


Q: What is the best way to get the Waycover repair process started?
•   A: You have two options to start: (expand)

• Option 1: Estimate Before Sending

A) CONTACT US to request the Waycover Quote form

B) Provide *detailed* pictures of all your damaged way covers as well as angle shots to each surface to see any bending, dents or other damage. Send via Email. If upon actual inspection any quotes are underestimated due to damage not seen in pictures a new quote will be provided.

C) Include all measurements on the form including:

  • Overall length (extended and retracted) Not each box, the entire unit
  • Height and width 
  • Noticeable damage
  • Support roller/guide conditions.

• Option 2: Send Us Your Way Covers

A) Please reach out to us before sending your way covers at 608-716-7678 to receive the REQUIRED form PRIOR to shipment.

There are several types of Waycover we will not quote and repair.  PLEASE do NOT send in your Waycovers until an image has been sent in.

B) Once you have confirmed we can quote, you can ship your covers to our facility 

*** DO NOT SHIP YOUR WAYCOVERS TO OUR BILLING ADDRESS ***
***Repairs will not begin until you approve our quote / invoice***

Q: Can i get an estimate / quote for my Waycover repair?
•   A: You have two options for a quote or estimate:(expand)

Q: Is it possible to send in damaged Way covers for a repair quote?

What does the repair process include? "What is included (or not)?"


Q: What does a Waycover repair include?
•   A: Our waycover repair process involves the following:(expand)
  • Replacement of waycover wipers, seals, casings, bumpers, and springs (rollup) as needed
  • Repair or fabrication of metal sections as needed
  • Repair / Replace rollout sections as needed
  • Replace scissors sections as needed
  • Installation of new slide guides and brass spacers as needed

Q: What styles of machine Waycovers cannot be repaired?

  • Metal faced accordion CLOTH Waycovers
  • Accordion Cloth Style Waycovers
  • Very Thin metal waycovers that do not hold their shape
Q: What is the largest / smallest size Waycover you can repair?
•   A: We regularly work on these sizes:(expand)
  • We have worked on covers as large as 25 feet per section (75 feet extended)
  • There is no minimum size requirement
  • If it can be shipped, it can likely be repaired

Q: What's NOT included in my repair?

  • Waycovers will be wrapped on skid for outbound LTL shipment
  • Smallest sizes may ship via parcel
  • Use your own carrier for freight pickup at our remote facility
  • All Waycovers ship on YOUR accounts
  • BOL MUST be received prior to pickup

 

Shipping and Delivery "How long will this take?"


Q: How long does the Waycover repair process take?
•   A: The repair process typically takes 2-3 Weeks. (expand)
  • However, this can vary based on the extent of damage and workload. 
  • Lead time may change based on when cover received and backlog at that time.
  • First come first serve.
  • Expediting available for an additional fee, CONTACT US!
  • If you need a time estimate, please contact us!
Q: Can you expedite a repair if my machine is down?
•   A: We can often expedite an order, please contact our waycover specialist for current lead times(expand)
  • There is an additional fee for this (Case by Case)
  • Based on current workload at our shop
  • If you have a time sensitive job, CALL US FIRST!
Q: How does this ship back to me?
•   A: LTL Freight is our standard method (expand)
  • Freight is not included in any of the pricing on this page
  • Waycovers will be wrapped on skid for outbound LTL shipment
  • Generally we return via the same method you choose to ship
  • Use your own carrier for freight pickup at our remote facility

 

Costs, Payment, and Warranty "How can I pay for this?"


Q: What's the average cost for a Waycover repair?
•  A: That's a complicated question that depends on many factors including type, material, and damage to your covers. As a rough estimate:(expand)
  • On average, the cost for a small standard Metal Roll-Up Way Cover repair ranges from $800 to $1000.
  • On average, the cost for a standard Metal Cover 3-4 sections 36 inches wide where no sections need to be made new averages $1500-2000.
  • The actual cost may vary depending on the specific condition and size of the cover.
  • This is NOT a quote, and is an rough estimate only, PLEASE send in images of your waycovers for an accurate quote.
Q: Do you warranty your Way Cover repair work?
•   A: We offer a 3-month warranty for repairs due to our error or premature failure based on workmanship. (expand)
  • Please note that external causes like dents, misuse, or poor maintenance are not covered under the warranty.
  • Our warranty does not cover damages caused by standing on covers and warping them, tools thrown in machine damaging lips of waycovers, excessive chip load embedding in wipers, improper installation or poor maintenance of chip buildup in machine. 
  • See the list below of specific additional actions NOT Covered by our warranty.
Q: What's not covered under the warranty?
•   A: We do not cover the following: (expand)
  • Standing or Sitting on waycovers while fixing machine
  • Bent bolts that hold waycover together or are used as pivot points
  • Tools dropping onto waycovers because of tool changer misalignment
  • Tools thrown in machine damaging lips of waycovers
  • Deterioration of wipers from chemicals
  • Chip buildup under way covers due to improper seals
  • Excessive chip load embedding in wipers
  • Poor maintenance of chip buildup
  • Improper coolant flush setup to keep covers clean and lubricated
  • Improper installation (see our guide below)

Q: Can I use NET terms / pay later?
•   A: All of our work for Waycovers requires a minimum down payment of 50%.


 

Diagnosis and Maintenance


Q: Why do Way Covers Fail? (click here)
•   A: The following is a short list of possible reasons your way covers may not be working as intended: (expand)
  • Chip buildup under way covers due to improper seals
  • Bent bolts that hold waycover together or are used as pivot points
  • Tools dropping onto waycovers because of tool changer misalignment
  • Deterioration of wipers from chemicals
  • Improper coolant flush setup to keep covers clean and lubricated.

The way covers are rusty or make excessive noise There is a low coolant concentration Increase coolant concentration

The rail screws are loose Tighten all loose rail screws
Q: How do I maintain and care for my Waycovers? (click here)
•   A: Please see some best practices for waycover maintenance here:(expand)
  • Spray down all waycovers weekly. If you do not have an extra coolant hose attached to your coolant pump install one now.
  • Take an emery cloth and wipe down the way covers that have built up residue on them so they are smooth and clean to keep chips from sticking and keep the way covers sliding freely.
  • Redirect any coolant flush systems setup to properly keep chips off of waycovers.
  • Pull back way covers and clean under the covers as well as in the corners where each slat slides.
  • Replace any wipers that are damaged
  • Silicone all way covers to prevent coolant and chips from going underneath them.
