Dripfeeding DNC

Drip Feeding DNC Communications

What is dripfeeding?

With some older machines, the machine control cannot handle large amounts of data, so the program needs to be sent from the PC to the control in small packets. The CNC machine executes each move as it is received directly from the computer. This drip feeding process sends the program code directly from the computer; NOT the machine memory.

Drip feeding is usually used when the machine memory is not large enough to hold the entire program which requires the user to either split up the program into multiple programs or utilize drip feeding capability in which the computer feeds the data as needed to the machine. In essence, your PC is feeding the program to the machine as it perform its operation rather than downloading to the machine and then have the machine perform its operation.

Can I drip feed when connected through USB?

The K2100 USB adapter does NOT support dripfeeding - but is recommended for machines where you transfer a program into the machine memory, then run the program from the machine memory.
