We have a great partner company TIE that offers hands-on training classes for mechanics, techs and maintenance personnel. Classes are available at your location or through one of our sponsored locations.
Companies and their accounting staff tend to undervalue their maintenance staff. It typically costs an average of $120 dollars an hour to bring in outside service techs. If a company brings in a maintenance tech at that rate for merely three days a month, it would add up to $34,560 a year. But what companies often do not realize is just how many thousands of dollars are unnecessarily wasted due to expenses resulting from insufficiently trained maintenance personnel. Our hands-on Mechanical, Electrical and Training Classes can minimize these expenses by learning how to troubleshoot and repair a machine efficiently.
Below are just some of the easily preventable ways companies lose money every day. They illustrate why well-trained maintenance personnel are one of any company’s most important assets.
Costs of Untrained Techs
- Excessive scrap parts occur when the accuracies of the machine are not properly maintained.
- Mechanical backlash issues cause excessive tool wear and breakage, resulting in higher tool costs.
- Having to call in a service tech in for machine repairs costs an average of $120 per hour. Having to call in a , Mitsubishi or Yaskawa rep AND a service tech costs $240 total per hour.
- Replacing the wrong parts that are not actually needed for a machine adds up fast. For example, a servo drive or motor costs $2-6K. A Spindle costs $10K.
- Waiting 4-6 weeks for an out of stock part that does not fix the issue.
- Excessive downtime means that machines are down twice as long. This forces a company to move their job to another machine which requires two or more people. This means additional costs from labor, crashes, improper job setup and more.
- Machine parameters are often lost because untrained staff are unable to properly back-up the machine or replace a simple battery. Believe it or not, it happens all the time. Worse yet, it takes 2-5 days to load those parameters and re-setup.
These are just some of the hidden costs companies do not think about. Maintenance guys are really one of your most important assets.
