Customization Options and Ordering Instructions (Select at bottom of page!)

  1. Select the length - See below standard RS232 lengths. If you need exact length, select the longer length when adding to cart and specify in additional order notes your specified length.
  2. Specify machine make and model to help confirm the cable will be configured properly for your machine.
(e.g. Mazak, Mori Seiki, Okuma, OKK, Doosan, Hardinge, Makino, etc.)
  3. Specify CNC controller used on your machine. (e.g. Mitsubishi, Fannuc, Yaskawa, Yasnac, Fadal, Haas, Brother, etc.)
  4. Are you going to use XON/XOFF (software) or RTS/CTS (hardware) Handshaking? If you’re not sure, that’s okay.
XON/XOFF: Software handshaking (standard protocol) - XON/XOFF is the typical RS232C cable pinout wiring standard. Uses software XON/XOFF control when it sends the data, RTS (request to send) and CTS (Clear to send) signals jumped out so it is always ready to send or receive.
RTS/CTS: Hardware handshaking - this RS232 wiring configuration would use two additional wires, CNC requests data, then pc sends etc. The signals are RTS/CTS and are typically only required on vintage machines or applications not related to CNC.
  5. Specify the connectors needed on both ends of the cable.
What D-Sub connector do you need for the Machine Side of the cable - DB9-pin or DB25-pin? Male or Female?
What D-Sub connector do you need for the PC/Switch Side of the cable – DB9-pin or DB25-pin? Male or Female?
Below are the standard typical connectors for most machines
Left image (DB9 Female) Right image (DB25 Male)
  6. If you have a cable wiring pinout diagram, please email or fax it to us.
  7. Are you connecting to a manual switch box? Select YES if you are connecting to an A/B selector switch box or something similar. We may need additional information.

We solder custom RS232 cables onsite using high quality well-insulated cables. Their foil shield and drain wire reduces signal noise interference. Their lead-wires use a thicker gauge wire than most off-the-shelf serial cables. We test our cables before shipment wire-for-wire for accuracy, signal consistency and continuity. If we are uncertain of any specification we may contact you for more details before building.

Standard Disclaimer
*Custom-built cables are not returnable. Carefully review the order confirmation and let us know if there are any discrepancies before we ship your cables. If we need to make a correction to the cable, there may be a
$50 dollar re-wiring fee.

*Damages. CNC Specialty Store LLC is not responsible for improper wiring diagrams or specifications supplied to us by our customers. We are not responsible for any damages or data loss which may occur as a result of improper wiring. CNC Specialty Store LLC will not be liable or responsible for any damages which may result from the installation and use of any of our products. Note that damage to the machine as a result of incorrect wiring, while possible, is extremely rare as RS232 typically operates under a low voltage. Data loss when transferring programs over RS232 can occur depending on routing, length, environment and other factors. You agree to these terms if ordered from us.

We also offer a less expensive 10ft serial null modem cable. However it is made of the thinner wire-gauge cable. We do not recommend buying extensions to add to any of our cables also for this reason and grounding issues.
